Description

The Z50 is one of the smallest mirrorless cameras, while still offering amazing features. It's the first time Nikon paired an unstabilized APS-C sensor with its new Z lens mount.  It's s a compact entry level camera that produces high quality dynamic range.

Similar cameras to consider: Fujifilm X-T30 II, Sony a6400, Olympus OM-D E-M5 III.

Pros:

  • Able to take pictures while recording movies
  • Good image and video quality
  • Ergonomically comfortable with a grip and well placed buttons and dials
  • Small and compact
  • Seems more rugged than other competitor's "small" cameras.
  • Allows for lots of user customization
  • Image and video quality are good
  • Can do simple video editing (trimming) in camera.
  • Easy to save different camera settings for photo vs video
  • Can shoot remotely with the SnapBridge app

Cons:

  • Since the monitor flips down for selfie mode, you're not able to view the monitor from in front of the camera if using a tripod.
  • Electronic vibration reduction is for movie mode only.
  • No in body image stabilization
  • Not a huge variety of native lens choices yet
  • Battery life could be better
  • Autofocusing could be faster
  • No in-built automatic sensor cleaning
  • Difficult to purchase spare batteries
  • Flip screen only flips down which means you can't face it down when the camera is on a tripod.
  • 29 min 59 sec max continuous movie recording time.
  • Can't use the touchpad to control the AF point while using the viewfinder
