Description

The Fujifilm X-E4 was designed to be a portable camera to capture memories on the go. The X-E4 uses the same "X-Trans CMOS 4" image sensor and "X-Processor 4" processing engine as Fujifilm's flagship X series cameras but housed in one of the smallest camera bodies that Fujifilm has ever made. The X-E4 can fit in a large pocket or small bag. Sorry ladies, the X-E4 is small, but not small enough to fit in women's poorly designed small pants pockets. Paired with the XF27mm F2.8  R WR lens (the thinnest and lightest X mount lens as of 2022), the X-E4 is a top candidate for a travel camera. Other top contenders would be the Nikon Z50, the Sony a6400, and the Canon EOS M6 Mark II.

The X-E4 camera has some of Fujifilm's signature camera control dials, reminiscent of analog cameras. This allows you to setup your camera settings even when the camera is off. However, the X-E4 has a new "Program (P)" position to quickly switch to a programmed auto shooting mode for quick automated shooting so you don't need to worry about camera settings.

The 180 degree tilting LCD screen allows you to view your image composition from up high, down low, and even while standing in front of the camera for a selfie.

Pros:

  • Small and lightweight for portability
  • Control of camera via the smart phone app is better than others.
  • Video performance equivalent to the Fujifilm X-S10.
  • Great image quality with Fujifilm's signature film simulation options

Cons:

  • Not that many physical buttons so it's harder to navigate.
  • Tripod mount too close to the battery cover. May need to remove accessories in order to change out batteries.
  • Battery life could be better.
  • The flip screen ribbon cable is exposed and could possibly be easily damaged.
  • There's no dedicated movie record button by default but a function button can be assigned so that you can begin recording movies while still in still image shooting mode.
  • Additional cost for grip and thumb rest.
  • Requires Fujifilm X Webcam Software to use camera as webcam
